MTN Rwandacell plc (MTN Rwanda), in partnership with Yellow, is excited to launch Tunga Taci na MTN, a groundbreaking smartphone financing program designed to make smartphone ownership affordable and accessible for all Rwandans. Customers are now able to purchase smartphones from leading brands, including Samsung, Tecno, Itel, and Infinix, with the initial payment of Rwf 16,000 followed with monthly installment plan over the next 12 months.
With just a national ID, customers can walk into any MTN Service Centre or Yellow partner shop and walk out with a brand-new smartphone paying for it through a convenient and flexible installment plan. This means customers can enjoy their new device immediately while managing their budget over time, all while benefiting from MTN’s reliable network and value-packed bundles.
This collaboration is more than a product launch; it’s a shared commitment to closing the digital divide gap and advancing Rwanda’s Vision 2050 of a fully connected, digitally empowered nation. By removing cost barriers, MTN Rwanda and Yellow are empowering more citizens to access essential digital tools from online learning, entrepreneurship, and mobile banking to job opportunities, government services, and staying connected with their loved ones.
“At MTN Rwanda, we believe that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. With TungaTaci na MTN, we are addressing one of the key barriers to digital inclusion being ‘affordability’. By providing customers with affordable smartphones, we are empowering more Rwandans to connect, learn, and thrive in the digital world.” states Somdev Sen, Chief Commercial and Digital Officer at MTN Rwanda.
TungaTaci na MTN is powered by Yellow, MTN Rwanda’s exclusive partner, which has developed a tech-driven platform to make the customer experience seamless from registration to repayment. TungaTaci na MTN ensures customers can quickly access a device and start enjoying MTN’s value-packed bundles without disruption.
“Smartphones are more than just devices, they are gateways to opportunity. We are proud to partner with MTN Rwanda to make these gateways accessible to even more people across the country,” states Michael Heyink, CEO and founder of Yellow.
The launch of Tunga Taci na Yellow initiative comes at a time when digital adoption in Rwanda is accelerating, but device affordability remains a challenge for many. By removing this barrier, MTN Rwanda and Yellow are expanding smartphone penetration and enabling more citizens to actively participate in the digital economy. This supports Rwanda’s Vision 2050 goal of building a fully connected, knowledge-based society where technology drives education, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.
Tunga Taci na MTN is now available at all MTN Service Centres and Yellow partner shops nationwide. Customers are encouraged to visit their nearest outlet to learn more and sign up for a smartphone installment plan.
