Magloire Paluku, a former journalist who later became a Communications Advisor in the Coordination Office of the AFC/M23 coalition and a close confidant of Corneille Nangaa, the Coordinator of the coalition was shot dead in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Magloire Paluku, who had been serving as Nangaa’s Advisor, died on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after being shot on a road in the city of Goma, which has for some time been under the control of AFC/M23.
Magloire Paluku Kavunga, who died at the age of 58, was born on December 12, 1966, in Butembo. He was a well-known cultural figure in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He was a journalist, writer and poet, musician, comedian, and radio broadcaster. He was also the founder of Radio Kivu 1, a major media outlet in the region. He was a close associate of Corneille Nangaa, serving as his advisor.
He also served as an Advisor in the Ministry of Culture of the DRC before joining AFC/M23 after previously working as the Director General of a department within the ministry.
In July 2024, Magloire Paluku was sentenced to death in a case involving Corneille Nangaa and 24 other co-accused before the Military Court of Gombe. They were charged with war-related crimes, treason, and involvement in uprisings in the eastern part of the country.
His name appeared among the 25 accused individuals, including the former president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Corneille Nangaa, and several AFC/M23 military officials.
The AFC/M23 coalition confirmed his death in an official statement, saying that he passed away at Goma General Hospital, where he had been taken after the shooting. The coalition added that an investigation has already begun.
