In Conakry, Guinea, President Paul Kagame chaired the 12th Smart Africa Board Meeting, bringing together African leaders and key partners to discuss how to accelerate the continent’s journey toward a fully digital economy.
During the meeting, discussions focused on key priorities such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, innovation, and the progress made through the Smart Africa Alliance, a partnership of countries and institutions working to make technology a driving force for Africa’s growth.
President Kagame, who serves as the Chairman of the Smart Africa Board, emphasized the importance of execution and measurable results. He noted that Africa’s true progress will not only depend on the ideas and policies being developed but also on how effectively they are implemented and scaled to impact people’s lives.
“The true test of our progress will be how we execute and scale these projects to create measurable outcomes,” President Kagame said.
He also highlighted the need for collaboration across different sectors, governments, industries, academia, and development partners to maintain momentum and ensure that Africa remains competitive in the global digital economy.
“As always, collaboration between governments, industries, academia and development partners will create a stronger momentum for Africa to prosper in the digital economy,” he added.
President Kagame warned that delays in implementation could hurt Africa’s credibility, while fulfilling commitments would accelerate development and show the world that Africa is serious about digital transformation.
“Every delay takes away Africa’s credibility, and every fulfilled commitment accelerates delivery on the ground. Let’s continue working together,” he urged.
The Smart Africa Alliance, launched in 2013, aims to transform Africa into a single digital market. It currently includes more than 30 member states, representing over 900 million people, and works on initiatives such as broadband expansion, e-governance, and data sharing policies across borders.
This 12th Board Meeting in Conakry marks another step forward in uniting African countries around a shared vision of a connected, innovative, and digitally empowered continent.
President Kagame’s message serves as a reminder that while Africa’s digital ambitions are bold, their success will depend on consistent teamwork, accountability, and timely action.
