The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, Olivier Nduhungirehe, says that the suspension of Major General Sylvain Ekenge from his position as spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) was the result of pressure from Europeans who influence the leadership of that country, not the will of its own authorities, who themselves are deeply rooted in dangerous ideology.
This comes after the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, made the decision to suspend Major General Sylvain Ekenge from his role as FARDC spokesperson, following hate-filled and ideological remarks he made on national radio and television.
The remarks by Major General Ekenge, in which he said that “looking for a Tutsi woman to marry nowadays requires to be careful…,” were strongly condemned by various leaders, including European officials such as the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, who stated that such speech should not be tolerated.
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, said that “The suspension of Major General Sylvain Ekenge from his position as spokesperson for the FARDC is indeed nothing but the window dressing intended for the international community, given how deeply the rot runs at the top of the state.”
Minister Nduhungirehe went on to say: “This suspension, clearly under Western pressure, reminds us of the exfiltration of Léon Mugesera by President Juvénal Habyarimana, following his inflammatory speech in Kabaya in November 1992.”
He added that although Habyarimana dismissed that politician after he had delivered an extremely hateful speech filled with genocidal ideology that encouraged Hutus to hate Tutsis in Rwanda, the Head of State himself continued to carry out actions aligned with the path toward genocide.
He said: “I recall that at the same time, President Habyarimana was creating the sadly infamous “Interahamwe” militia, which was already carrying out massacres against the Tutsi in Kibilira, Mukingo, Murambi, Bugesera, and elsewhere in the country.”
President Félix Tshisekedi is also described as continuing to display ideological tendencies, and it is reported that he recently received two individuals, including Habyarimana Jean-Claude, also known as Jules Mulumba, who is the Secretary General and spokesperson of the armed group CMC Nyatura and a member of the Wazalendo group, which is accused of being deeply rooted in genocidal ideology.
