AFC/M23 has published shocking and heartbreaking footage showing individuals who lost their lives in recent clashes, alleging that as the plan to exterminate Congolese people from the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo continues, a plan they claim is being executed by the government in collaboration with Burundi, heavy fighting broke out between FARDC and Wazalendo, resulting in the death of many civilians.
This was announced by the spokesperson of the AFC/M23, Lawrence Kanyuka, on Monday, December 08, 2025, who stated that “The murderous extermination campaign orchestrated against the populations of the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo by the Regimes of Kinshasa and Bujumbura continues without the slightest truce this Monday, December 8, 2025.”
He further explained that “Yesterday, Sunday, December 7, 2025. Exchanges of the fire with heavy light weapons between the Wazalendo and the FARDC in the town of Sange caused the deaths of numerous civilians, as well as some Wazalendo fighters who were attempting to flee the front line.”
Kanyuka added that “Several other people were injured, inflicting upon innocent families a new wave of pain, terro, and devastation.”

Lawrence Kanyuka also affirmed that the AFC/M23 “condemns with the utmost firmness these barbaric attacks deliberately targeting civilians. These acts constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
This announcement comes at a time when intense fighting has escalated between AFC/M23 and rival forces, especially in parts of South Kivu such as Kamanyola, leading to mass displacement of civilians, including some who have fled into Rwanda.
These attacks have reportedly intensified with Burundi’s involvement, as some of the shells fired into those areas were said to have originated from Burundi, a country that recently committed to supporting the DRC government in the ongoing conflict in the eastern region.
