AFC/M23 has declared that after forces composed of FARDC, FDLR, and Burundian troops continued launching attacks on civilians and its positions, it is obliged to confront them at their sources of preparation.
This Alliance plans on holding a press briefing this Monday, September 1 in Goma, to be led by the group’s coordinator, Corneille Nangaa. The announcement followed a stern warning Kanyuka issued on Sunday, August 31.
In the statement, delivered with pictures, Lawrence Kanyuka who spoke with a loud and angry voice, said that Saturday, “The terrorist government of Kinshasa launched a new step in its malicious plan.”
He added that their opponents, “have launched a full-scale war using their usual fighters, including FARDC, FDLR, Mai-Mai Wazalendo, mercenaries, and the Burundian army. They bombed civilian areas without mercy and attacked AFC/M23 positions.”
Kanyuka went on to stress that all this is being done by the Congo Kinshasa government despite the signing of the Doha Principles on July 19, 2025.
He said, “The bloodthirsty government has continued its politics of hatred and actions of violating civilians. It has also persisted in spreading its malicious propaganda in all areas under its control, particularly in Uvira where they have set up a joint command zone. That is where they coordinate military operations, deploy troops, and prepare drone attacks.”
According to Kanyuka, after preparing these attacks, government forces struck in areas including Walikare near Mpinga, Bunyakiri near Kadasomwa, and Kasika near Mwenga.
He stated, “These serious attacks caused the deaths of our fellow civilians, forced many innocent people to flee their homes, and put countless others in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.”
Kanyuka concluded his speech by assuring the population that the AFC/M23 Alliance will not stand idly by as such atrocities are carried out by the Congolese government. He declared that their fighters are determined to protect civilians and dismantle these hostile operations by confronting their enemies at the source.
