The AFC/M23 coalition has announced that the opposing side continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, carrying out attacks that include the use of warplanes and naval forces in the area of Makobola, as well as in Minembwe, in South Kivu Province.
Information about these attacks was disclosed on the morning of Friday, 19 December 2025, by the AFC/M23 Political Spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka.
Kanyuka stated that although the coalition continues to demonstrate goodwill and to give an opportunity for the ceasefire decision to be respected, the opposing side has persistently ignored it.
He said: “the Kinshasa regime persists in implementing its plan for the systematic extermination of our compatriots, in flagrant violation of all its commitments.”
He added: “The coalition forces of the Kinshasa regime continue to carry out deliberate attacks against our positions, as well as against densely populated areas.”
Kanyuka further explained that on Friday, 19 December 2025, “From 5:00 a.m., these coalition forces launched attacks using kamikaze drones and naval forces, targeting densely populated areas as well as our positions at Makobola, originating from Baraka.”
He also noted that “At 5:30 a.m., the same forces attacked Minembwe using drones and heavy artillery, sowing terror among the civilian population.”
The AFC/M23 spokesperson called on Congolese citizens and the international community to expose these ongoing crimes and actions that go against peaceful approaches.
He concluded by saying, “These acts demonstrate unequivocally that the Kinshasa regime seeks neither peace nor the protection of civilians, but persists in perpetuating violence and impunity.”
These attacks occurred just one day after AFC/M23 began withdrawing its forces from the city of Uvira, a decision that was taken to give a chance to dialogue and peace efforts aimed at finding a lasting solution to the crisis in eastern DR Congo.
