The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced that the “enemy of Uganda” who recently entered the country’s territory are fighters from terrorist groups originating from South Sudan who oppose that country’s government. He added that the UPDF is ready to address their issue.
General Muhoozi made this statement on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, through a message posted on his social media platform X, seemingly reassuring South Sudanese citizens that those who entered Uganda were not there to create tension between the two countries.
He said “the enemy that entered Ugandan territory last month was not SSPDF. It was an assortment of terrorist groups opposed to Juba”
The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, General Muhoozi, went on to say that the country’s army is ready to confront that enemy. He stated, “We shall resolve their issue jointly with SSPDF.”
General Muhoozi also took the opportunity to announce that he will soon visit South Sudan and meet with that country’s President.
He said “For South Sudanese, all we feel is love for them. They are our brothers. I am coming to meet my uncle, Afande Salva Kiir, soon”
Uganda has recently been facing terrorist acts carried out by individuals associated with extremist groups, including bombings in various areas. At the beginning of last month, the Ugandan army killed two suicide bombers.
These individuals, described as terrorists, included a woman carrying an explosive device. They were killed in Munyonyo on the day of a memorial event for Uganda’s martyrs, which had drawn large crowds from across the world.
The Ugandan army has frequently stated that some of those who carry out such suicide attacks have traveled to neighboring countries, where they also obtain weapons used in these terrorist acts.
