The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has said that he always asks God for forgiveness for any wrong he may have done to his father, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Muhoozi revealed this in a message he posted on X on Wednesday, August 13, saying that there are instances where he did not live up to his father’s expectations but that he asks God for forgiveness.
He said: “Every day I ask Almighty God to forgive me for any offences I have ever committed against my father. May Almighty God give him a long life and strength.”
General Muhoozi, the firstborn of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has often described his father as a hero and a role model.
However, on different occasions, he has also expressed interest in contesting for the leadership of the country currently headed by his father, but later retracted, saying he supports his father.
In September last year, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba shed light on the speculations that he would also contest for the presidency in the upcoming 2026 elections, stating that he would not run but would instead support his father Yoweri Museveni though he added that his successor should not be a civilian.
At various times, General Muhoozi has made statements that stirred controversy and had consequences most notably in 2022 when he declared that he could capture Nairobi in just two weeks, sparking diplomatic tension between Uganda and Kenya. This incident even prompted President Museveni to apologize.
