The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has condemned a fake statement falsely attributed to it, which being widely circulated on social media.
The fake announcement, which emerged overnight, was shared mostly by individuals known for spreading anti-Rwanda rhetoric. It bore the official RDF logo and contained false information, particularly regarding the health of President Paul Kagame, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of RDF.
The forged statement claimed that the RDF had called on “Rwandans and friends to remain united and direct their prayer toward the Head of state during these difficult times.”
It went on to say that the army was urging citizens “to remain calm , that the Republic’s institutions will continue functioning, and that the RDF is prepared to keep safe guarding the country’s security , peace and stability.”
On the morning of Tuesday, June 24,2025, the RDF officially debunked the statement via its social media platforms, labelling it as fake news.
