Minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe mentioned that conversations between Rwanda and Burundi with the aim of maintaining a good relationship are still going on, but wrong accusations from President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi are delaying it.
Minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Amb Olivier Nduhungirehe mentioned that the conversations are still going on and It’s part of what they talk about in meetings with his fellow Minister of foreign affairs and International Cooperation of Burundi.
Minister of Foreign affairs and International Cooperation says “The only issue is President of Burundi who communicates wrong accusations of Rwanda to the international press, It is not only for Rwandans because Burundians also desire for a better relationship between the two countries.”
Minister Nduhungirehe talked about the two conversations that were given by the President of Burundi where as he stated wrong accusations of Rwanda planning to attack Burundi
Nduhungirehe mentioned that President Ndayishimiye raises these accusations yet the Ministry of defense on both sides work together mostly in issues concerning security of both countries, this means “that these accusations delay us but we won’t be discouraged in maintaining peace with Burundi hence a better relationship.”
Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe mentioned that Rwanda desires for a continued partnership with Burundi in terms of security and defense but partnering would come from changed behaviors from the leaders of Burundi who have been attacking Rwanda.
He said” In relation to all the accusations from different countries that we had agreed to come to an end, most especially that they are false accusations. Saying that Rwanda plans to attack Burundi is false accusations, Burundians are aware of that.
Minister of foreign affairs and International Cooperations, Amb Olivier Nduhungirehe mentioned that once the leaders of Burundi stop spreading false accusations of Rwanda, it would support the conversation being held therefore the relationship of both countries which are usually partners would be better.
The government of Burundi falsely accuses Rwanda of supporting RED- Tabara Rebels that are against the leadership of Burundi. In the start of the year 2024, in January, the government blocked the borders of both countries.
Despite everything, Rwanda never ceased to prove that it has no relation with these rebels and they criticised the advocacy of those allegations.
