The AFC/M23 coalition has announced that the DRC regime coalition, including FARDC and FDLR, carried out early-morning attacks in Goma and surrounding areas, killing four innocent civilians.
This was revealed by the spokesperson of AFC/M23, Lawrence Kanyuka, who said: “On Monday, August 25, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., fighters allied to the bloodthirsty Kinshasa regime comprising FARDC, FDLR, Mai-Mai, Wazalendo, and Nyatura launched massive attacks in heavily populated areas of Kibati, Munigi, Goma, and nearby locations, resulting in the deaths of four innocent civilians while three others were seriously wounded.”
Kanyuka went on to call upon human rights organizations and the international community to denounce these crimes against humanity being committed by the Kinshasa government.
He further stated that although the Doha peace talks established principles for a ceasefire, the Kinshasa government has refused to respect the agreements, such as releasing detainees identified by the AFC/M23 coalition as being imprisoned on accusations of supporting the movement.
He also claimed that the Congolese government has continued to arrest and sentence to death individuals accused of backing AFC/M23, “to the extent that they even plotted to do the same to former President Joseph Kabila,” who once led the country.
These ongoing attacks by the Kinshasa government come after AFC/M23 had warned that their opponents are showing intentions of escalating the war, as seen through the deployment of more soldiers and weapons in different areas.
